This year we’re holding the Strong Women Business Gathering will be held at Birdwood Downs Station.

 

Birdwood Downs is a pastoral station of 1700 ha located on the Gibb River Road 20 km from Derby in the West Kimberley. Since 1978 it has pioneered new ecological methods of improving degraded lands using stock management, weed control and planting improved grasses. Now the Station is part of Northern Pastoral Management which is taking the land care pioneering to an environmentally sustainable commercial operation.

Birdwood Downs Station is located on The Gibb River Road, approximately 20km east of Derby WA. The Gibb River Road is sealed well beyond the Station. Access to the Station is via a 750m well-maintained gravel road, easily accessible by 2WD.

Camping and Event Registration

Girls and women attending the Gathering from outside of Derby to are welcome camp at Birdwood Downs Station.

 

We will offer unpowered sites for tents and swags as well as prepared campfires to share conversations under the Kimberley skies. You will have the experience of a bush camp combined with the comfort of shared toilet facilities.

CAMPING Questions:

Is camping free?

Yes! The camping capacity is for 150 persons and available to girls and women participating in the two-day event on the 24th and 25th June. Camping is not available for those only attending the Celebration Event.

 

If you plan on bringing a trailer, campervan or caravan this will need to be paid for and booked through Birdwood Downs Station.

Be aware: There will be lots of toilets available on-site however no access to showers. 

 

Do I need to register for camping?

Yes. If you would like to camp yourself or your group must register using the Camping Registration Form on this page.

Do I need to bring my own camping equipment?

Yes. If you plan on camping you will be required to bring your own camping equipment (tent, swag, and pillow), toiletries (towel and toothbrush) and suggest you bring a torch too. If you play an instrument you may also want to bring these along too!

 

Campsites are unpowered however we will have little campfires set up close by to enjoy conversation under the stars together.

 

What about breakfast?

While we will provide breakfast on Saturday 25th there is no catering on the morning of 26th – you will need to bring food with you to or to buy food in Derby.

 

Are there power points?

There are several power points at the Birdwood Downs Station for charging devices however given the number of people attending we recommend not relying on their availability. Also be aware that you are responsible for your valuables – we don’t recommend leaving things unattended.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Terms and Conditions

All participants of the Gathering agree to the Conditions of Camping and Entry, including: 

  • In the spirit of caring for Country, ensuring the campsite is kept clean and disposing of any waste in the provided bins.  

  • Complying with WA Health directives with regards to COVID Safe practices which may include (but are not limited to) registration on entry; physical distancing where applicable; good hygiene; and/or any COVID Safe practices that are current at the time of the event.  

  • Alcohol, illicit drugs, glass containers, and animals (except guide and assistant animals) are prohibited from being brought into the venue.  

  • Smoking cigarettes only in designated smoking areas.  

  • Patrons consent to being included in any photography, film and/or sound recordings within the event or its surrounds, and grant the right to this information being used by Winun Ngari or by third-parties directly associated with the event for future marketing or promotional purposes. 

  • Taking responsibility for personal items. Winun Ngari takes no responsibility for lost or damaged property. 

  • Taking personal responsibility for the care of children under 18 years of age accompanying patrons to the event. 

  • This is an all-weather event and will go ahead, rain or shine. Patrons agree to wear adequate clothing and footwear for an all-weather outdoor event, suited to the time of year and the weather conditions on the day. Suitable shoes and protective clothing is recommended especially if the weather has been wet or hot. 

 

Participants acknowledge that failure to comply with Conditions of Camping and Entry could result in entry being refused or eviction from the event.
